Transition work

I'm always amazed at how more hours of daylight and the sun influences my sense of well being. There's a spring in my step and I want to move and accomplish things. Nothing seems too overwhelming to start. None of these feelings exist in the winter months.

My time in the studio increased this week and I'm almost finished a large (24 x 36) work that is a response to both my presence in the gardens, the property itself and my process of working. I feel a sense of accomplishment in covering that much physical space and moving into an arena that stretches me. I want to create 3 works this size and then I will decide if they have a place in the exhibition of if they are just something that has to be done for my sake. I've come to accept these changes in work size, style etc. as transition activities and it is important to leave yourself wide open to get the most benefit from them.

I'm not only experimenting this week, I'm also working on 9 small encaustic pieces that focus on the benches on the Birr Castle property and my reflections while sitting on them. They are little gems and I can't wait to show one completed.

My blogging presence will be decreased as I use every available moment to work in the studio. I am still reading but giving myself a break from writing so much.

me too-- when I am working hard in my studio I have a harder time getting to my computer and getting around the blogs-- but doesn't it feel good to get good works done in the studio-- spring is coming for sure.

I have that same feeling of anticipation in Autumn. We're going into Autumn now and its such a relief to turn my back on summer. Studio time will definitely increase.

I'm photo-sensitive like you, Margaret. Daylight savings time helps, and so does the warmer temperatures and budding trees. Transitions are fun and frustrating, but you have such a scholarly approach to your work that I'm certain you'll avoid trouble. Your encaustics will be a wonderful addition to your show and I can't wait to see them!
I tend to paint almost all day and into the weekends, so I read/blog in the early morning and then head to the studio. I like the routine. Happy painting!

I'm with you, Margaret.
The extra daylight and spring helps so much with doing all I want to accomplish.

I know what you mean about the change of mood and energy level that happens in the spring. It's so universal, I guess it's meant to be that way!

Sounds like you have a lot of projects going on. Isn't it great to be busy and have your blood boiling in anticipation of accomplishments and creative works?
