Poppies of every variety inspire me. They are repeated content in my work. I love the vibrant colours, paper thin petals and curving stems. They move and lean into the wind in precarious positions. One wonders how they stay upright. I think they are one of the best examples of tenacity in the floral kingdom.

well i think you know i'm not a flower person, having said that i do like poppies! i love the hard shell thing i think its so cool. and i also like the color of your poppy flower alot....i get why they inspire you!
Best comment in a long time Paula. I know how you feel about flowers! My next post is going to focus on four works about poppy pods. I love their sculptural qualities. My daughter even had several pods in her bouquet when she got married. We're pod people.
How I love poppies! This is quite stunning.
Margaret, after reading your description of a poppy, I feel guilty about what I said. So, I take it back, ok? Actually, if I could paint flowers the way you do they wouldn't bore me at all.
Wow Deborah, I have a convert. That's great. Even Paula (self taught artist) has chink in her armour. There's hope for sure.
THATS FUNNY. see you have tenacity and have made a dent in us flower haters ...haha
glad i can be honest and you 'get it'. its good too i think, to see art for what it is and what calls out to you regardless of what the subject is. thats when you know someone has done their job. :)
Agreed Paula. I know I create my best work when I am internally attracted to my subject matter. I could never paint what's "popular at the moment".
I think this is absolutely gorgeous - I'm looking forward to the pod post!

It is so gorgeous! Love this piece! BTW - I am with you, I am unable to do what is popular at the moment either as I must be personally inspired to begin anything. Again, always lovely to come to your blog.
